Leonard Cohen - "It Seemed The Better Way" (You Want It Darker, 2016)

Sounded like the truth, but it's not the truth today:

Δε μπορώ να προσποιηθώ το φανατικό ακροατή της δισκογραφίας του Leonard Cohen και βασικά αισθάνομαι άβολα και μόνο που προσπαθώ να γράψω δύο προτάσεις για αυτόν. Ο σεβασμός μου όμως είναι δεδομένος και μπορεί να μην έχω εντρυφήσει όπως θα έπρεπε στην υπέροχη μουσική του, ο πρόσφατος θάνατος του ωστόσο (7 Νοεμβρίου, 2016) ήταν μια αφορμή να μπω στο μαγικό κόσμο των στίχων και των μελωδιών του. Από το εμβληματικό Songs Of Leonard Cohen του 1967 και μετά από συνολικά 14 studio δίσκους, με τον καθένα να κατέχει τη δική του ξεχωριστή αξία, φτάσαμε στο τελευταίο και περσινό You Want It Darker, το οποίο έλιωσα πρόσφατα και αγαπάω ήδη. Δεν είμαι ο κατάλληλος να κρίνω αν είναι όντως ένα από τα αριστουργήματα του ή αν ο θάνατος του Cohen το "μεγάλωσε". Ακόμα όμως κι αν έγινε έτσι, κομμάτια όπως το "It Seemed The Better Way", αρκεί για να μας θυμίζει, γιατί ο κος Cohen είναι ένας Θρύλος της Τέχνης.

Don't Stop Groovin: Sleepin Pillow - "That Girl" (The Past is Already Here, 2016)

That girl on my head: Μεγάλη αδυναμία μου οι Θεσσαλονικείς, τους οποίους θεωρώ πολύ υποτιμημένους και παράλληλα την ζωντανή απόδειξη πως η Ελληνική μουσική σκηνή έχει σημαντικούς καλλιτέχνες να αναδείξει. Σίγουρα η παραγωγικότητα τους δεν τους βοηθά ώστε να μένουν στο προσκήνιο, αλλά λίγη σημασία έχει αυτό, αφού μας προσφέρουν τόσο ωραίες μουσικές.

Η μπάντα σχηματίστηκε το 2004 και πέρσι κυκλοφόρησαν τον τρίτο τους ουσιαστικά δίσκο. Σε αυτούς προσθέτουμε και το The World is over του 2014 που περιέχει νέα αλλά και παλαιότερα τραγούδια της δισκογραφίας τους.

Το The Past is already Here είναι μία ακόμη ποιοτική δουλεία. Τα Ανατολίτικα στοιχεία, τα οποία χαρακτήριζαν τους πανέμορφους πρώτους δύο δίσκους τους, παίζουν και πάλι σημαντικό ρόλο στο χαρακτήρα των κομματιών και είναι ίσως λίγο πιο διακριτικά. Η ψυχεδέλεια και οι proggresive συνθέσεις όμως, είναι ακόμη η βάση και των νέων κομματιών, ενώ σίγουρα διαφαίνεται και μία πιο alternative κατεύθυνση. Χαρακτηριστικό παράδειγμα είναι το "That Girl" που είναι απλό, όμορφο, ίσως το πιο "radio friendly" τραγούδι που έχουν κυκλοφορήσει, αλλά και  ιδανικό για να γίνεται χαμούλης στα ούτως ή άλλως εξαιρετικά live τους.

Don't Stop Groovin: King Creosote - "Wake Up to This" (Astronaut Meets Appleman, 2016)

Mr Creosote: Ο King Creosote είναι ο κατά κόσμον τραγουδιστής και τραγουδοποιός Kenny Anderson. Γεννημένος στη Σκωτία ο πενηντάχρονος πλέον καλλιτέχνης απαριθμεί σχεδόν 40 δισκογραφικές δουλειές.
Πέρσι κυκλοφόρησε το πιο πρόσφατο album του με τίτλο Astronaut Meets Appleman, που μας άρεσε πολύ. Ένα από τα κομμάτια που ξεχωρίζουν είναι το ρυθμικό "Wake up to this", που μεταδίδει μια χαρούμενη και παράλληλα νοσταλγική διάθεση.

Daydreamin: The Maccabees - "Unknown" (Given To The Wild, 2012)

Just while love remembers: Χάζευα πρόσφατα τα τελευταία live που έκαναν φέτος το Καλοκαίρι οι Maccabees με αφορμή τη διάλυση τους -την οποία εδώ και μήνες είχαν ανακοινώσει- και συνειδητοποίησα πόσο πολύ θα λείψουν από την Indie σκηνή οι αγαπημένοι Βρετανοί. Μας χάρισαν τέσσερις αξιοπρεπέστατους δίσκους, εξέλιξαν τον ήχο τους, μένοντας ταυτόχρονα πιστοί στο indie rock ιδίωμα, όπως το ζήσαμε κατά τη διάρκεια των 00s και μας χάρισαν αρκετά διαμαντάκια. Το "Unknown" είναι ένα πολύ υποτιμημένο κομμάτι τους και σίγουρα ένα από τα αγαπημένα μου. Μουσική που σε ταξιδεύει. Τόσο απλά και όμορφα.

Daydreamin: The XX - "Performance" (I See You, 2017)

If I scream at the top of my lungs, Will you hear what I don't say?:
Πανέμορφο τραγούδι από το φετινό δίσκο των ταλαντούχων Λονδρέζων, που μπορεί να μην κυκλοφόρησαν το album της χρονιάς, απέδειξαν ωστόσο για μία ακόμη φορά, πως αξίζουν της αναγνώρισης που απολαμβάνουν. Το "Performance" δε στηρίζεται στις ενορχηστρώσεις του, παρά μόνο στη σαγηνευτική φωνή  της Ronnie και τους υπέροχους στίχους του. Απλά και και διακριτικά βρίσκεται στα  ομορφότερα κομμάτια της χρονιάς.

Don't Stop Groovin: The Last Shadow Puppets - "Used To Be My Girl" (Everything You 'Ve Come to Expect, 2016)

The odyssey, came down, kind of hard on me:
Χρειάζονται συστάσεις? Ο Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) & ο Miles Kane είναι ουσιαστικά ορόσημα σε αυτό που ονομάζουμε Βρετανικό Indie rock από τα 00s και μετά. Δημιούργησαν το 2007 το project group Last Shadow Puppets και με τη δισκάρα The Age Of Understatement του 2008, μας ανάγκασαν να αναμένουμε με αγωνία τον διάδοχο, που ήρθε τελικά οκτώ ολόκληρα χρόνια αργότερα. To περσινό Everything You Have Come To Expect όμως δεν ανταποκρίθηκε στις προσδοκίες μας τελικώς και ήταν επιεικώς μέτριος δίσκος. Είχε ωστόσο τις πολύ καλές στιγμές του. Το "Used To Be My Girl" έχει Indie rock σφραγίδα και είναι σίγουρα μία από αυτές.

Listen & Score: Radical Face - "Everything Costs" (The Family Tree:The leaves, 2016)

Dreams, like coins down a well: Ο Radical Face είναι ουσιαστικά ο τριάντα-πεντάχρονος Αμερικανός τραγουδιστής/τραγουδοποιός/μουσικός Ben Cooper. Με το παρόν σχήμα έχει κυκλοφορήσει 5 δίσκους, με πιο πρόσφατο το εικονιζόμενο The Family Tree:The Leaves του 2016. Ουσιαστικά πρόκειται για το τελευταίο μέρος της τριλογίας The Family Tree και διαδέχθηκε το The Roots (2011) και The Branches (2013). Και τα τρία κινούνται στο χώρο, του indie folk/pop και τα τρία είναι υπέροχα. Στην ιστορία του The Leaves πρωταγωνιστεί η Οικογένεια "The Northcotes" ξεδιπλώνοντας μας τη ζωή τους. Από το δίσκο ξεχωρίζω τα "Rivers In The Dust", "The Road To Nowhere", "Bad Blood" και τέλος το αγαπημένο και μοναδικό "Everything Costs" που ακούμε παρακάτω. Μόλις το ακούσετε και το λατρέψετε και εσείς, ασχοληθείτε και με τον υπόλοιπο δίσκο αλλά και γενικά με τον ταλαντούχο κύριο B. Cooper, γιατί το αξίζει πραγματικά.

Daydreamin: Linkin Park - "One More Light" (One More Light, 2017)

There is a light that never goes out: Έχουν πλέον περάσει δύο μήνες και φυσικά δε μπορείς να πεις ότι το έχουμε χωνέψει ακόμη. Ούτε λίγο.

Το video clip των Linkin Park για το "One more light" είναι αφιερωμένο στον Chester και εμείς χαζεύουμε, συγκινούμαστε, απορούμε και ανησυχούμε... 

Στα υπόλοιπα νέα, η μπάντα ανακοίνωσε το πρώτο live της μετά Bennington εποχής των Linkin Park, που θα γίνει στο Los Angeles, στις 27 Οκτωβρίου με συμμετοχή πολλών καλλιτεχνών, φυσικά προς τιμήν του.

Don't Stop Groovin: Editors - "Sugar" (The Weight Of Your Love, 2013)

There's sugar on your soul: Τώρα που πλέον πέρασαν αρκετά χρόνια και δοκιμάστηκε αρκετά (στα αυτιά μας), ήρθε η ώρα να κάνουμε μία ειλικρινή παραδοχή για το "Sugar". Δεν είναι απλά ένα "καλό single" (σ.σ. δίσκος Weight of your love, 2013). Είναι ΚΟΜΜΑΤΑΡΑ, με στιχάρες. Ο Tom Smith (όπως αναμενόταν) το απογειώνει με τη φωνάρα του, αλλά το "special" που τελικά το κάνει να ξεχωρίζει οφείλεται σε... αυτό το μπάσο-ρυθμό, που μπαίνει και σε "παίρνει" μαζί του καθ όλη τη διάρκεια του και του δίνει μία ατελείωτη ένταση. Αναπόσπαστο μέρος πλέον των set list της μπάντας, αξίζει πραγματικά να δείτε και να ακούσετε αυτήν την εκτέλεση από το περσινό Best Kept Secret Festival στην Ολλανδία, όπου όλη η  μπάντα και κυρίως ο χαρισματικός T.Smith δίνουν ένα εξαιρετικό performance.

Don't Stop Groovin: Vampire Weekend - ''A Punk'' (Vampire Weekend, 2008)

Look outside at the raincoats coming: Μας έχει φάει η αναμονή για το νέο δίσκο των Vampire Weekend και εκεί που νομίζαμε πως είχε μείνει στον πάγο για λίγο, ήρθε ο Ezra Koenig (κιθάρα, φωνητικά) να μας αναθερμάνει με δηλώσεις του, λέγοντας πως είναι έτοιμο το 80% του διάδοχου του Modern Vampires of the City (2013). Δεν θα το περιμένουμε λογικά μέσα στο 2017,  γιατί όπως ο ίδιος ο Koening είπε "το 20% είναι πάντα το πιο δύσκολο". Δεν πειράζει όμως! Πάμε να φτιάξουμε τη μέρα μας με το τραγούδι-ύμνο που τους έβαλε στις καρδιές μας βαθιά. Προτιμήστε το ένα πρωινό που δε θα ξυπνάτε να πάτε για δουλειά. Σκοπός είναι να χορεύετε στον καθρέφτη δέκα λεπτά αργότερα. Δοκιμάστε το!

Daydreamin: Michael Kiwanuka - "Cold Little Heart" ( Love & Hate, 2016)

One day at a time: Μπήκε για τα καλά στις ζωές μας, με το δεύτερο δίσκο του Love & Hate και το ομώνυμο υπέροχο κομμάτι (Click). Τον θαυμάσαμε με το γεμάτο νόημα, αλλά και soul ρυθμό "Black Man In A White World". Αυτό εδώ όμως είναι αξεπέραστο. 11 λεπτά που απλά ευχαριστιέσαι τη μουσική, χαζεύεις το εξαιρετικό παίξιμο αυτών των ταλαντούχων μουσικών. Οι "Φλοϋδικές" επιρροές είναι διάχυτες και αποδίδονται εντυπωσιακά. Ναι, αυτό είναι το ευαίσθητο σημείο μας και παρότι οι στίχοι του είναι "πικροί" και απαισιόδοξοι, σε γεμίζει τόσο όλο αυτό που έχεις ακούσει, που σου αφήνει ένα οξύμωρο χαμόγελο. Εξαιρετικό κομμάτι από έναν -ήδη- αγαπημένο καλλιτέχνη, που έχει δείξει πως μπορεί να κάνει σπουδαία πράγματα και να μείνει στη μουσική ιστορία. Μένει να το αποδείξει.

Daydreamin: Blur - "Caramel" (13, 1999)

Where is the magic?: Εάν γνωρίζεις τους Blur μόνο από το "Song 2" και το "Girls and Boys", τότε ίσως δεν έχεις συνειδητοποιήσει γιατί είναι μία από τις κορυφαίες μπάντες της σύγχρονης rock σκηνής.

Το "Caramel" είναι μία από τις "ονειρικές" στιγμές της μουσικής ιδιοφυΐας που λέγεται Damon Albarn και της παρέας του. Και ναι, μπορεί πρέπει  να σου αλλάξει τη γνώμη για την αξία των σπουδαίων Βρετανών. Ένα αριστούργημα σε ένα δίσκο διαμάντι. Daydreaming: The Verve - "Sonnet" (Urban Hymns, 1997)

 "Αστικοί Ύμνοι": Oι The Verve γιορτάζουν τη συμπλήρωση 20 χρόνων από την κυκλοφορία του Icon album για τα 90s και τους ίδιους φυσικά, Urban Hymns και δεν υπάρχει καλύτερη ευκαιρία ώστε να βάλουμε δυνατά να παίξει το θρυλικό πλέον "Σονέτο" τους.
Για την ιστορία να πούμε πως το Urban Hymns είναι το 18ο σε πωλήσεις άλμπουμ όλων των εποχών στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο και έχει πουλήσει περισσότερες από δέκα εκατομμύρια κόπιες παγκοσμίως. Enough said που λένε και στο χωριό μου. Τέλος, η μπάντα ανακοίνωσε πως το Σεπτέμβριο θα έχουμε μία deluxe επανέκδοση του δίσκου, με αφορμή τη συμπλήρωση των 20 ετών. (Εδώ βέβαια μπαίνει το άσχετο ερώτημα "Ρε πως περνάνε τα ρημάδια τα χρόνια έτσι!"). Η εκτέλεση που ακούμε είναι από το ιστορικό live τους στο Glastonbury το 2008.

You Got Me Rockin: Allah Las - "Could Be You" (Calico Review, 2016)

No waves, no surfing: Το Calico Review είναι κακός δίσκος. Σίγουρα γιατί πάσχει από έλλειψη ενέργειας και εκτός ελαχίστων εξαιρέσεων δε σου δίνει ένα πάτημα να  ξεσηκωθείς. Το σημαντικότερο όμως είναι πως τελικά έχει επιεικώς μέτριες συνθέσεις χωρίς έμπνευση.
Ας ελπίσουμε πως ο τρίτος δίσκος των Αμερικανών είναι απλά μια άσχημη παρένθεση, μετά το εκπληκτικό ομότιτλο ντεμπούτο, αλλά και τον άξιο διάδοχο του Worship The Sun.

Τώρα αν υπάρχει ένα κομμάτι του Calico Review που να μας θυμίζει τους Allah-Las που αγαπήσαμε, αυτό είναι σίγουρα το "Could be you". Έχει αυτό που όρισε εξαρχής τη μπάντα αυτή. Θυμίζει Καλοκαίρι με κέφι και χορό στην παραλία. Το έχουμε ξεχωρίσει και το κρατάμε.

Daydreamin: The National - "Guilty Party" (Sleep Well Beast, 2017)

...How you do it: Η μαγική ημερομηνία είναι η 8 του Σεπτέμβρη. Τότε θα κυκλοφορήσει το 7o δημιούργημα των σπουδαίων The National και θα έχει τον τίτλο Sleep Well Beast.
Έχουν περάσει 4 χρόνια από το διαμάντι Trouble Will Find Me και δεν περιμένουμε κάτι λιγότερο από δισκάρα και πάλι. Τα δύο πρώτα κομμάτια που έχουμε ακούσει είναι ακράδαντες ενδείξεις. Την αρχή έκανε το πολύ καλό και "ηλεκτρισμένο" "The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness" και χθες είχαμε ένα δεύτερο υπέροχο δείγμα με το "Guilty Party" που μαγεύει από την πρώτη στιγμή. Η μουσική είναι classic με σφραγίδα The National και δε χρειάζεται να πούμε πολλά. Αυτοί οι στοίχοι όμως συνοδευόμενοι από τη φωνή του Matt Berninger, σε "τρυπούν" για μία ακόμη φορά από την πρώτη μέχρι την τελευταία λέξη.

Home is wherever I'm with you: Πίσω στο 2009, ο Alex Ebert (aka "Edward Sharpe") και η πολυμελής παρέα των Αμερικανών Indie folkers Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, κυκλοφορούν το ντεμπούτο τους Up From Below και θα τους αγαπήσουμε κυρίως για αυτό το χορευτικό διαμαντάκι. Το "Home" θα ανέβει πολύ ψηλά σε όλα τα charts και μέχρι και σήμερα έχει αυτή τη μαγεία όταν το ακούς, να σε κάνει  να χαμογελάς, να σφυρίζεις στο ρυθμό του, αλλά και να γεμίζεις νοσταλγία. Παίζει στο Repeat και μας φτιάχνει τη μέρα!

Daydreamin: Radiohead - "I Promise" (OK Computer Remastered Edition -OKNOTOK- 1997 – 2017)

OK not OK: Στις 26 Μαΐου συμπληρώθηκαν είκοσι χρόνια από την κυκλοφορία του ΟΚ Computer. Δε θα ψάξω να βρω λόγια να περιγράψω το μεγαλείο αυτού του δίσκου γιατί θα γίνω γραφικός. Θα πω μόνο πως δεν είναι απλά ο κορυφαίος δίσκος των τελευταίων είκοσι ετών.
Το "I promise" γράφτηκε εκείνη την περίοδο λοιπόν και δεν κατάφερε(!) να μπει στο δίσκο. Το είχαμε ακούσει από ανεπίσημες ηχογραφήσεις και εκτελέσεις και φέτος με αφορμή την επέτειο του OK Computer, ήρθε η ώρα να κυκλοφορήσει και επίσημα και να μας ανατριχιάσει, γυρίζοντάς μας πίσω στη μουσική των Radiohead εν έτει 1997. Απλά υπέροχο.

The Horrors Are Back!: Δεν το περιμέναμε, αλλά να που οι Βρετανοί Post-punkers "έσκασαν" με νέο (και μάλιστα πολύ καλό) κομμάτι, το οποίο είναι προαναγγελία για το πέμπτο full length album τους, τρία χρόνια μετά το Luminous.
Πρώτο δείγμα πολύ θετικό με το 'Machine", που είναι αρκετά διαφορετικό από ότι ακούσαμε στο luminous, έχει νεύρο, είναι σκοτεινό, κινείται πολύ κοντά στον Industrial ήχο, ενώ έχει πολλές επιρροές από Depeche Mode. Εν κατακλείδι, είναι πολύ, πολύ καλό.

You Got Me Rockin: Foo Fighters - "Run" (New Song, 2017)

Foooos: Δύο χρόνια τώρα προετοιμαζόμασταν -σύμφωνα με τις φήμες- για την πιθανή διάλυση της μπάντας, τελικά όμως προέκυψε ανακοίνωση για το άλμπουμ Νο 9 των Foos πακέτο με μια ΚΟΜΜΑΤΑΡΑ. Δεν έχουμε πολύ info ακόμη για το πότε και τι στα του δίσκου, αλλά το Run μας έχει ανοίξει την όρεξη.

Run: Εύκολα από τα καλύτερα που έχουν γράψει οι FF στην καριέρα τους, το ακούμε δυνατά εδώ και ημέρες στο Repeat. Το κεντρικό riff  είναι φωτιά σκέτη. Το video clip που σκηνοθετεί ο ίδιος ο Dave Grohl δείχνει τα μέλη της μπάντας μεταμφιεσμένα να παίζουν για το ..υπέργηρο κοινό τους σε μία εκκλησία και το αποτέλεσμα είναι ο πανικός ο ίδιος!

Daydreamin: Alt J - "Adeline" (Relaxer, 2017)

Masterpiece: Δε μπορείς  πάντα να βρεις λέξεις να περιγράψεις τη μουσική. Κάποιες φορές αρκεί να τη βάζεις να παίζει συνέχεια, μέχρι να "αδειάσεις" μέσα σου. Η "Adeline", το τρίτο κομμάτι του πολυαναμενομένου νέου δίσκου (Relaxer) των Alt-J που είναι από χτες σε κυκλοφορία, μιλάει για έναν παράξενο ανεκπλήρωτο έρωτα και έχει αυτή τη μαγική ιδιότητα.

Το νέο album θα κυκλοφορήσει στις 2 Ιουνίου και έχουμε ήδη μιλήσει για αυτό, σε προηγούμενο post, ακούγοντας το επίσης πολύ καλό 'In Cold Blood" εδώ. Περιττό φυσικά να πω πως με τα τρία πρώτα δείγματα οι προσδοκίες είναι πάρα πολύ υψηλές και περιμένουμε πως και πως. Μέχρι τότε θα απολαμβάνουμε το καθηλωτικό "Adeline",  που για τον γραφών βρίσκεται ήδη στα highlights της καριέρας των Βρετανών.

Daydreamin: Chris Cornell - "Nothing Compares 2 U" (Prince Cover, Live Accoustic 2015)

R.I.P. Chris: Θλίψη. Όταν φεύγει τόσο νέος, ένας καλλιτέχνης που έχει χαρίσει τόσα πολλά στη Rock μουσική, μία τόσο σπάνια φωνή, αυτό είναι το μόνο συναίσθημα που ταιριάζει στο σημερινό μαντάτο της ημέρας. Ο γεννημένος στις 20 Ιουλίου του 1964 Christopher John Boyle, ή όπως τον αγαπήσαμε, Chris Cornell, βρέθηκε νεκρός σήμερα στο δωμάτιο του ξενοδοχείου που διέμενε, στο Detroit. Λίγες ώρες πριν είχε συμπληρώσει με τους Soundgarden το τελευταίο, όπως έμελλε, live set της ζωής του.

Grunge: Θα τον θυμόμαστε σίγουρα σαν έναν από τους πρωτοστάτες του Grunge, του επιδραστικότερου (μουσικού) κινήματος των 90s. Γύρω στα τέλη του 80 θα σχηματιστούν στο Seattle των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών οι Soundgarden, οι οποίοι με τον Cornell στη μια κιθάρα και τα φωνητικά, θα κυκλοφορήσουν δύο δίσκους-μνημεία της Rock. Το Badmotorfinger του 1991 και το Superunknown του 1994 θα τους εκτινάξει. Μαζί με τους Nirvana, τους Alice In Chains, τους Pearl Jam θα αναγκάσουν τους πάντες να μιλούν για τη μουσική σκηνή του Seattle. Τα υπόλοιπα είναι Ιστορία. Το 1997 θα διαλυθούν και το 2001 ο Chris θα σχηματίσει με τον Tom Morello των Rage Against The Machine τους Audioslave. Θα κυκλοφορήσουν τρεις δίσκους με σημαντικότερο το ομότιτλο ντεμπούτο του 2002. Στην καριέρα του έχει επίσης να προσθέσει τέσσερις προσωπικούς δίσκους, με κορυφαίο το εκπληκτικό Euphoria Morning του 1999, ενώ πολύ σημαντικός δίσκος θεωρείται και αυτός του Side Project,  Temple Of The Dog, που σχημάτισε το 1990 και με τους οποίους κυκλοφόρησε το 1991, το θρυλικό πλέον ομώνυμο album. Το 2010 οι Soundgarden θα επανενωθούν και θα κυκλοφορήσουν το αξιοπρεπέστατο King Animal το 2012.

Η είδηση του χαμού του ήταν ξαφνική και σοκαριστική. Δεν έχουμε παρά να τον τιμήσουμε σήμερα με μία υπέροχη ακουστική εκτέλεση του, στο "Nothing Compares 2 U", που έχει γράψει ένας ακόμη πολύ σπουδαίος της μουσικής, που επίσης χάθηκε πρόσφατα. Φυσικά μιλάμε για τον αξεπέραστο  Prince. Το "Nothing Compares 2 U", το ταυτίσαμε με τη μοναδική ερμηνεία της  Sinéad O'Connor τη δεκαετία του 1990, ωστόσο θα πρέπει να θυμόμαστε πως το κομμάτι γράφτηκε πίσω το 1985, από τον Prince, για το δίσκο του τότε Side Project του, The Family.

Daydreamin: The Kills - "The Last Goodbye" (Blood Pressures, 2011)

Alison λέμε και κλαίμε: Η πρώτη μέρα του φετινού Ejekt Festival πλησιάζει και έχουμε ήδη αναφερθεί με ενθουσιασμό (Κλικ) στο φετινό μεγάλο μπαμ, που δεν είναι άλλοι φυσικά από τους The Killers. Δεν ξέρω πόσο υπερβολικό θα ακουστεί, αλλά η προσθήκη των The Kills ως δεύτερο όνομα την ίδια ημέρα,  έκανε στα αυτιά μου επίσης μεγάλο "κρότο", σιγουρεύοντας το "θα είμαι και εγώ εκεί" της υπόθεσης. Άλλωστε θα είναι και για τους Λονδρέζους η παρθενική εμφάνιση στη χώρα μας και μακάρι να βγω ψεύτης, η (συναυλιακή) λογική λέει πως δε θα έχουμε και πολλές ευκαιρίες να τους ξαναδούμε στα μέρη μας.

Duo Since 2000: Η "συνένωση" της σαγηνευτικής Alison Mosshart με τον Jamie Hince έγινε στις αρχές της προηγούμενης δεκαετίας και το 2001 έκαναν αμέσως μεγάλη αίσθηση με το ντεμπούτο full length album "Keep On Your Mean Side", με τα τραγούδια τους να κινούνται στο Indie rock, έχοντας όμως μία σφραγίδα έντονης garage αισθητικής. Η φιγούρα της Alison απογείωσε τη μπάντα που έμεινε συνεπής όλα αυτά τα χρόνια στο στίγμα της και κυκλοφόρησε μέχρι και πέρσι τέσσερις ακόμη δίσκους. To 2005 επιβεβαιώνουν πως ήρθαν για να μείνουν με τον "Now Wow", αλλά καταφέρνουν να βγάλουν τους ίσως δύο καλύτερους δίσκους τους μετέπειτα, με τα "Midnight Boom" (2008) και "Blood Pressures" (2011). Τελευταία δουλεία το περσινό Ash & Ice που είναι ίσως η πιο μέτρια δουλειά τους, χωρίς όμως αυτό να σημαίνει πως δεν έχει και κάποιες πολύ καλές στιγμές.

Το "Blood Pressures" είχε πολλές κομματάρες και θυμάμαι πως όταν  πριν κάποια χρόνια ο δίσκος είχε για καιρό μόνιμη θέση στο mp3 player, για έναν ανεξήγητο λόγο το "The last Goodbye" δεν ήταν στα τραγούδια που έπαιζαν στο repeat. Λίγα χρόνια μετά, το video clip με την ... αναμαλλιασμένη Alison και το υπέροχο ασπρόμαυρο πορτραίτο της, έχει σίγουρα κατατάξει αυτήν την υπέροχη ερωτική μπαλάντα στα ομορφότερα κομμάτια της δισκογραφίας τους.

Ραντεβού λοιπόν στις 24 Ιουνίου στην Πλατεία Νερού στο Φάληρο, όπου θα τούς απολαύσουμε μαζί με τους The Killers, Circa Waves και Deaf Radio, στα πλαίσια της πρώτης ημέρας του Ejekt Festival 2017.

Daydreamin: Anathema - "Springfield" (The Optimist, 2017)

Περιμένοντας το 13ο "παιδί": Στις 9 Ιουνίου περιμένουμε λοιπόν το νέο full-length album των πολυαγαπημένων Βρετανών και μέχρις στιγμής μαθαίνουμε ωραία πραγματάκια για το... "can't wait" της ιστορίας. Ο δίσκος θα ονομάζεται "The Optimist" και θα κυκλοφορήσει από την Kscope. Αυτό που μας χαροποιεί ιδιαίτερα είναι πως το album θα είναι concept και θα συνεχίζει από εκεί που τελειώνει το πανέμορφο "A Fine Day To Exit" (2001). Το tracklisting είναι το εξής:

Ο παράξενος τίτλος του εναρκτήριου κομματιού είναι ουσιαστικά οι συντεταγμένες της παραλίας που απεικονίζεται στο εξώφυλλο του A Fine Day To Exit!

Το "Springfield" τώρα, είναι ουσιαστικά ένα Post-Rock κομμάτι με ελάχιστους στίχους, ερμηνευμένους από την Lee Douglas. Πανέμορφη ατμόσφαιρα, μελαγχολικές μελωδίες που σε ηρεμούν και σε ταξιδεύουν. Είναι ένα κομμάτι με υπογραφή Anathema που θα μας κρατήσει όμορφη συντροφιά, μέχρι να ακούσουμε και τα υπόλοιπα καλούδια του The Optimist. Φυσικά και περιμένουμε με αγωνία, τι ερωτήσεις είναι αυτές.

Υπενθυμίζουμε πως οι Anathema θα μας επισκεφτούν στις 2 Ιουλίου στο Terra Vibe, στα πλαίσια της δεύτερης ημέρας του Rockwave Festival.

You Got Me Rockin: The Soulbreaker Company - ''Black Wool Yarn'' (La Lucha, 2016)

Οι συστάσεις: Οι The Soulbreaker Company σχηματίστηκαν το 2003, μας έρχονται από τη Χώρα των Βάσκων και συγκεκριμένα από τη Vitoria της Ισπανίας. Το 2016 κυκλοφόρησε το  La Lucha πού είναι το 4ο full length album της μπάντας. Ο δίσκος  στριμάρει ολόκληρος στο bandcamp τους: https://thesoulbreakercompany.bandcamp.com
Στο Repeat: Ομολογώ πως δεν έχω παρακολουθήσει τη δισκογραφία τους, ωστόσο ακούγοντας το εκπληκτικό ''Black Wool Yarn'' είναι δεδομένο πως θα το κάνω asap. Εν ολίγοις, ακούμε πεντέμισι λεπτά υπέροχου Proggressive-Psychedelic rock επηρεασμένο από τις μουσικές των 60s-70s. Κοπιάστε άφοβα.

You Got Me Rocking: Alt-J - ''In Cold Blood'' (Relaxer, 2017)

Περιμένοντας τα σπουδαία: Όπως λοιπόν θα έχετε καταλάβει περιμένουμε τον τρίτο δίσκο από τα παλικάρια εκ του Camridge της Αγγλίας, τρία χρόνια μετά το Sophomore album τους This is All Yours. Το όνομα αυτού θα είναι Relaxer και οι πληροφορίες λένε πως θα κυκλοφορήσει πριν το καλοκαίρι. Σίγουρα από αυτά που έως τώρα ξέρουμε, μας κάνει μεγάλη εντύπωση ο μικρός αριθμός (8) των κομματιών, μιας και έχει ήδη κυκλοφορήσει το tracklisting το οποίο είναι το εξής: ''3WW'',  ''In Cold Blood'', ''House of the Rising Sun'' , ''Hit Me Like That Snare'' , ''Deadcrush'', ''Adeline'', ''Last Year'', ''Pleader''.

Από την άλλη είμαι σταθερά ''αλλεργικός'' στα fillers και προτιμώ οκτώ αξιοπρεπή κομμάτια, παρά να μπουν με το ζόρι και 3-4 ακόμη, για χάρη της κάθε δισκογραφικής. Για να πάμε στην ουσία, προς το παρόν έχουμε ακούσει ΜΟΝΟ ωραία πράγματα από τον Joe Newmann (φωνητικά, κιθάρα) και την παρέα του. Αρχές Μαρτίου κυκλοφόρησε το πολύ ενδιαφέρον ακουστικό-ατμοσφαιρικό-ambient-spaghetti western influenced  ''3WW'' και πριν λίγες ημέρες το ''In Cold Blood'' που θα σταθώ, γιατί από το πρώτο άκουσμα του μας θυμίζει το αγαπημένο ''Breezeblocks'' και αυτό είναι από μόνο του λόγος να σε ξεσηκώσει. Μπαίνει φουριόζικο χωρίς εισαγωγές, με έναν ρυθμό σήμα κατατεθέν Αlt-J και αλλόκοτους στίχους που προσπαθείς να αποκωδικοποιήσεις, εν ολίγοις είναι ένα από τα -έως τώρα- κομμάτια της χρονιάς και όσο πλησιάζει το καλοκαίρι θα παίζει και περισσότερο. Μέχρις στιγμής  τα πρώτα δείγματα είναι πάρα πολύ θετικά για το Relaxer, το αναμένουμε με αγωνία και ελπίζουμε οι πολυτάλαντοι Βρετανοί να μας χαρίσουν μια δισκάρα σαν το ντεμπούτο τους An Αwesome Wave (2012).
